MOTH

This attractive black and white moth had spread its wings on the inside glass of our greenhouse. And it stayed long enough to be photographed.

EARLY BEE

 

Spring is here, officially, and I caught this bee busy on its rounds of the blooming crocuses in the pots outside my window.

DRAGONFLY

These stunning black and yellow dragonflies were constant companions on one of our walks in Cumbria, and this one landed close to the path and stayed still long enough to be photographed. It seems to be studying me just as intently as I was focusing on it!

CATERPILLAR

This vivid little caterpillar was climbing on the old walls of Carlisle Castle. It’s bright orange and black stripes make it look like some want-to-be tiger but it is, in fact, the caterpillar of the Cinnabar Moth (Tyria jacobaeae), a red and black day flying insect which thrives on the otherwise poisonous ragwort plant.
